Why does eLearning Fail?

Recently, while speaking at a Human Capital conference in Dubai, I got asked this question that does eLearning Fail? And if it does, Why?

So I threw the question back at the audience and got some very genuine answers. Something like – "Lack of Executive Sponsorship" and "Expectation misunderstandings" etc. But I told them this..

This is true btw.

At a meeting with an experienced Training Manager,  the guy says.. I like your solutions and theoretically it all looks fine, but we have tried eLearning and it doesn’t work.
We just complete the courses because the management wants but the learners don’t get a good learning experience and aren’t satisfied.. Surprised I asked him if there was a language or a cultural barrier and he replied No.. the main reason is that they gave us eLearning for MS Office 2007 and the learners have MS Office 2003 installed on their machines.. So what’s the point of eLearning? It simply doesn’t work???

“eLearning fails because of Lack of planning and an ordinary Training Needs Analysis!”
