Why is eLearning in UAE such a success?

There are multiple reasons for eLearning success in UAE, however listed below are some “No Brainer” ones.

Statistics reveal that more than 80% of the UAE’s population has access to the internet and uses it on a periodic basis.  As per the World Bank’s World Development Indicators, UAE has more than 3.7 million Internet Users as of June 2011.

In today’s fast paced and challenging economic times, eLearning is a strategic part of any growing and profitable business in UAE. Not only does it give employers a chance to economically train their employees and retain top talent, it has also won the hearts of employees who perceive this as an investment in them from their employers.

In a recent survey on eLearning benefits conducted by New Horizons eLearning in the UAE, more than 75% of learners believed that eLearning has increased their productivity and has made them smarter.
Around 70% of the learners would recommend eLearning to a friend or family.

eLearning Boosts Staff Training Retention

Recent studies highlight the importance of companies adopting a blended learning approach to training, with teaching aligned to real-world performance. Find out how businesses can create effective staff training solutions using eLearning.
Research by sales training experts Huthwaite has found that 87% of learning from a simple classroom workshop was lost within 30 days, however, if the learning was supported by retrieval practice and assessments learners showed more than 100% improvement in performance.
As these figures show businesses can no longer afford to simply offer classroom training in the belief that their staff are fully trained, as a month later all training is forgotten. A far better option is to incorporate eLearning as part of a wider, blended learning solution.
eLearning is a powerful, stand alone learning seminar which delivers concise staff training where and when it is needed, combining teaching methods described above to ensure maximum retention is achieved.
The Huthwaite study also found that for performance to remain at the same level in the long term it learners should be encouraged to go through online modules twice in the two months following the initial course, and once every three months thereafter.
Creating and delivering eLearning is an extremely effective way of providing targeted, powerful training in the most cost-efficient way for your staff.

Learning Time Reduced Through eLearning

Learning time can be reduced by 40-60% on average when using eLearning compared with the traditional classroom technique, according to a new study from Brandon Hall Research.
Additionally, retention of the information learnt is higher as found in an independent study by J.D. Fletcher in his Multimedia Review, which showed retention averages increased by 25% over traditional methods when eLearning was used.
This fits in with research carried out on methods of training by U.S Department of Education who found on average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction.
eLearning platforms, which incorporate these two aspects of learning, are at the forefront of training methods, merging both in a systematic and user-friendly way.
For businesses one of the benefits are that employees are not just sat in front of a computer and told to read reams of information – instead, it is possible for a person or representative image to appear on the screen to run them through individual learning modules, followed by a mixture of tests, quizzes and extra reading.
The demand for eLearning services for teaching areas such as online sales and product knowledge has grown significantly, as the business world looks for affordable ways to meet training demands.
eLearning is an extremely effective way of providing targeted, powerful training in the most cost efficient way.

Why does eLearning Fail?

Recently, while speaking at a Human Capital conference in Dubai, I got asked this question that does eLearning Fail? And if it does, Why?

So I threw the question back at the audience and got some very genuine answers. Something like – "Lack of Executive Sponsorship" and "Expectation misunderstandings" etc. But I told them this..

This is true btw.

At a meeting with an experienced Training Manager,  the guy says.. I like your solutions and theoretically it all looks fine, but we have tried eLearning and it doesn’t work.
We just complete the courses because the management wants but the learners don’t get a good learning experience and aren’t satisfied.. Surprised I asked him if there was a language or a cultural barrier and he replied No.. the main reason is that they gave us eLearning for MS Office 2007 and the learners have MS Office 2003 installed on their machines.. So what’s the point of eLearning? It simply doesn’t work???

“eLearning fails because of Lack of planning and an ordinary Training Needs Analysis!”
